Semi-automated mechanical device for the deposition of ink on the skin with specific patterns on the extremities of the body.

Tatto machine

Why a tattoo machine?

It should be clarified that this machine is not intended to be a replacement, but rather an alternative to traditional tattooing, which provides a unique and different experience in the world of tattooing. This is important because people colloquially known as: collectors of tattoos, they usually look for different tattoo artists, since the search and the experience of getting tattooed with different people is a very rewarding part of the process, it serves as a topic of conversation or for simple personal taste, that is why for these people and for those who are barely Thinking about your first tattoo, a machine is an interesting option since it is something out of the ordinary and above all it is reliable.

It also carries with it a high social impact, since the tattoo has been present in the world since 3100 BC. representing ideologies, status in many groups around the world and throughout history, that is why this  invention could be the tool that marks a new era in tattooing and in the relationship between man and machines.

In the same way, the development of laser technology and software that generates more precise virtual models can offer a tool in the medical area for the development of prostheses that are customizable and unique, or obtaining 3D models that can be easily modified and printables, which opens the gap to a globally accessible manufacturing and design market.

How it works?

The process is divided into 4 main stages:

1 – Print pattern

A QSLS code (Quick Spatial Location Stencil) is obtained to be placed on the skin.

2- Scan.

The area where the tattoo is going to be made is scanned and in this way the 3D model obtained by the software has the code data stored, which in turn corresponds to a position in the area.

3- Configuration.

The size, orientation of the design, printing speed among other factors are configured.

4- Printing.

Ink deposition is performed.

Conclusion

The result is an innovative system that allows the correlation of a three-dimensional model and a code printed on the skin to deposit ink on extremities of the body, which presents a user-friendly interface. Despite not being able to build a prototype, several questions remain in the air, possible aspects that could be improved through the implementation of better recognition algorithms or the modification of some of the developed systems, this to adapt to the specific conditions of the different situations that may introduce yourself during the process.

In addition, the work done provides an economically viable option for tattoo studios in Mexico and the world.

Therefore, the work is considered to be a design that meets the established requirements and is located in a field with a very promising future, with great expansion in the current market, and growing social and business interest. But above all, it has served as an important didactic tool, since it has made it possible to implement mechanical, electronic and software design in a machine that escapes the conventional and promises to be the first development of its kind in the area with this type of technology.

Despite the successful completion of this project, there are many future works ahead that can be added to improve its performance, such as the ability to carry out more complex designs, in less time and with a wider range of colors, allowing, although not replacing the tattoo artist, to offer services that are increasingly complete and interesting for the final consumer.
